Phase change materials (PCMs) absorb or release heat as they change state. In cold chain packaging, the selected PCM works with an insulated shipper to help keep a temperature-sensitive payload within its target range during transport.

Our PCM portfolio covers applications from -80°C to +60°C, including formulations at -25°C, -21°C, -18°C, -16°C, -12°C and -5°C, as well as +2°C, +5°C, +18°C, +21°C, +28°C and +55°C. We also develop solid, leak-resistant phase change materials at +2°C, +4.5°C, +5°C and +29°C using phase change microsphere technology. The portfolio includes both organic and inorganic PCM options for different cold chain packaging needs.

PCM is available in gel packs, plastic ice packs, carton ice packs and nylon packs. These formats can be matched to a shipper and payload for a specific shipping application. Temperature hold time depends on the ambient profile, pack-out, PCM conditioning and shipper design; review the relevant qualification data when selecting a solution.
